The winter transfer window passed with Alexander Isak remaining at Newcastle United. While there wasn’t much talk about a move in January, reports suggest that clubs like PSG could make another push for him this summer.

RMC Sport previously claimed that PSG was prepared to offer Gonçalo Ramos, Randal Kolo Muani, and Marco Asensio in a swap deal to bring Isak to Paris.

Liverpool has also shown interest in the Swedish striker. Sky Switzerland journalist Sacha Tavolieri reported that the club has already started talks with his representatives.

The Reds were said to be preparing a big bid for Isak, even willing to break from their usual transfer approach to secure the 25-year-old.

Earlier reports indicated that Newcastle had set Isak’s price at €180 million (£150 million), a fee that would make him Liverpool’s record signing, surpassing the £85 million they paid for Darwin Núñez in 2022.

Barcelona aiming to do a daring move this summer?

Mundo Deportivo reports that Barcelona are targeting a move for Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali, along with a possible bid for Isak.

On the It’s Called Soccer podcast, Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher talked about where Isak could end up if Newcastle can’t meet his expectations. Carragher believes Arsenal and Liverpool are the top contenders for the prolific striker.

“I think the only two options [for Isak] at the moment would be Arsenal and Liverpool as they’re both sort of crying out for a striker,” Carragher said.

“I just look at how long he’s got left on his deal and the ball is in Newcastle’s court, it’s not really in Isak’s. I think once you get [down] to two years [on the contract], it’s almost a 50-50, no-one wants to get down to 12 months.

“Newcastle could keep him for another year and say, ‘We’ll see you then as we’re going to get the same sort of money’. I don’t think Newcastle gain anything by selling him now, unless that they had to.

“And that is why, if Newcastle get into the Champions League, there’s no way Isak is leaving the club. I think the club will say, ‘No, do another 12 months and in a year’s time we can make a few quid and you can move on’.”
