Chelsea are seeking revenge when they lock horns with Barcelona in the Women's Champions League semi-finals, with the first leg staged in Catalonia on Sunday.

The Blues have been beaten by Barcelona during three of their last four Champions League campaigns, twice in the semi-finals over the past two terms and in the showpiece event back in 2021. Sonia Bompastor, who has enjoyed huge success in this competition as a player and coach, is aiming for her own personal redemption, too, after her Lyon side were beaten by the Catalan giants in last year's final.

Chelsea enter the fixture in impressive form after overturning a 2-0 quarter-final first leg defeat to Manchester City in the previous round, They currently lead the Women's Super League and have already won the League Cup this term as well.

But conquering Barcelona will prove an entirely different proposition. The holders will fancy their chances of reaching a fifth successive final and securing a fourth title in five years. Pere Romeu has sustained their domination domestically and on the continent following Jonatan Giraldez's departure and the Liga F giants remain the team to beat on the continent.

Barcelona are sweating on the fitness of the hugely important Caroline Graham Hansen ahead of Chelsea's visit after the Norwegian missed training on Saturday through illness.

Elsewhere, Kika Nazareth is sidelined for the remainder of the season with a torn ligament in her ankle and has been absent since the beginning of March.

There are an abundance of threats across Barcelona's star-studded squad, with Ballon d'Or winners Aitana Bonmati and Alexia Putellas needing special attention in midfield.

Chelsea's injury issues are far more severe than Barcelona's, with a host of names missing for Bompastor this weekend. Sam Kerr, Lauren James, Sophie Ingle and Kadeisha Buchanan are all absent for the first leg.

In better news, women's football's most expensive player, Naomi Girma, could be available once more having suffered with injuries since her move to England.

Keira Walsh and Lucy Bronze were both members of Barcelona's Champions League-winning squad last season and will face a trip to familiar territory on Sunday.

Chelsea predicted lineup vs Barcelona (4-2-3-1): Hampton; Bronze, Bjorn, Bright, Baltimore; Walsh, Cuthbert; Rytting Kaneryd, Kaptein, Beever-Jones; Ramirez.

Chelsea did taste victory during the away leg of their UWCL semi-final with Barcelona last season but are unlikely to be as fortunate this time around. While the Blues will fancy their chances of unsettling the Catalan side, defeat is the most probable outcome.

Barcelona have been in relentless goalscoring form of late and put ten past Wolfsburg across both legs of their quarter-final. They could add a few more to their European tally as they look to take a cushion to London next week.
