Florian Wirtz will dominate the summer transfer window of Bayern Munich. The Bavarian club has identified the rising German star to strengthen the attack and replace Thomas Muller in the squad. Die Roten have been heavily linked with Wirtz over the last few years.
Bayer Leverkusen are in a strong position to negotiate a nine-figure fee for Wirtz since he has two years left on his current contract. Die Roten have started working on a deal by pitching the project to Wirtz’s representatives.
According to Bild, Bayern legend and supervisory board member Uli Hoeness held talks with Wirtz’s father before the Champions League quarter-final between Bayern and Bayer Leverkusen a few weeks ago.
Hoeness is completely involved in the deal for Wirtz. He has been vocal about Bayern signing the young German star in the summer. Bild has also reported that former CEO Karl Heinz-Rummenigge has also given his full support to bringing Wirtz to Bavaria at the end of the season.
Bayer Leverkusen are going to make the deal complex for Bayern as they don’t want to strengthen a direct Bundesliga rival. They maintained a tough stance in negotiations with Bayern last summer when the record Champions tried to sign Jonathan Tah.
Wirtz will have plenty of options to explore in the summer. Bild has reported that Pep Guardiola and Manchester City are eager to sign the German forward to replace Kevin De Bruyne. The Premier League side will be open to agreeing a fee close to €150 million for 21-year-old German star.
Real Madrid are also in the mix for Wirtz. The Spanish club could end up appointing Xabi Alonso as their next head coach at the end of the season, which may give them the edge to bring Wirtz to Madrid. Wirtz has shone under Alonso’s coaching at Leverkusen over the last 20 months.
A contract extension at Bayer Leverkusen with a release clause is also one of the options for Wirtz to consider in the summer. Ahead of the World Cup year, Wirtz may benefit from staying in a familiar environment and eventually make the big move in 2026.
Wirtz and his entourage are in no rush to make a decision. Things are likely to sort out later in the summer. Bayern face significant competition for the German star. Apart from Wirtz, Die Roten are also looking to add one winger to their attack in the summer. The rest of the summer transfer targets for Rekordmeister will heavily depend on how much money they generate from sales. The primary transfer budget is likely to be utilized on signing Wirtz.
