Borussia Mönchengladbach head coach Gerardo Seoane followed up a shaky pre match press conference on Friday with another gloom affair on Sunday evening.
Seoane found himself placed in the position of explaining his side’s second consecutive Bundesliga defeat. The European dream for Seoane’s Fohlenelf slips away with four games remaining.
Sunday night’s loss against Borussia Dortmund particularly stings as it continues the second consecutive week in which Gladbach lost against a direct rival for the European places. In the span of just seven days, both Dortmund and Freiburg have leapfrogged Gladbach in the table. Seoane was understandably subdued when facing the media.
“It’s extremely aggravating when one takes the lead and then concedes three goals before the first half is out,” Seoane said. “The quality of the opponent enabled them to capitalise on our mistakes. It still had a lot to do with us.
“I commend the team for not losing their nerve in the second half,” Seoane continued. “They could have taken more risks, but didn’t lose their nerve. Step by step they worked their way back into the game and there were chances in the last 15 minutes.
“It’s a shame that we have to head home without a point,” Seoane concluded. “But we can still build upon this performance.“
