Newcastle United will be hoping to tighten their grip on a spot in the Premier League‘s top five when they travel to the Amex Stadium to face Brighton and Hove Albion on Sunday 4th May at 2pm. The Magpies are fourth after 33 games, but sit just two points clear of sixth. Brighton have now fallen nine points behind seventh and look to be out of the European races. This game will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Premier League.
Harvey Barnes has scored or assisted in each of his past six Premier League games, and each of his past seven league starts.
Brighton are unbeaten in their past seven home games against Newcastle across all competitions. Four of those games have finished level.
Brighton were counted in the European conversation not too long ago, but a poor run of form has seen the Seagulls fall away. Fabian Hurzeler’s side are winless in their past five league games, losing three of those. That comes after a four-game win streak had lifted Brighton up the table. So now the Seagulls will be looking to end the season on a high, preparing for an important summer under Hurzeler.
Newcastle are in control of their Champions League destiny. The Magpies are fourth thanks to a five-game winning streak and a run of six wins from seven, including victory over third-placed Nottingham Forest. But they are by no means comfortable. Defeat to Aston Villa in their last away game means Newcastle are just a point clear of sixth-placed Chelsea. And the Magpies have a tough run of fixtures coming up, including games against Chelsea and Arsenal.
Brighton will be hoping to have Tariq Lamptey and Joel Veltmann back for this game, while Jan Paul van Hecke will need further assessment after his head injury. Igor Julio, James Milner, Adam Webster, Georginio Rutter and Ferdi Kadioglu are all fighting to be fit before the season is up.
Newcastle will continue to assess Fabian Schar, who could be available for the trip south. Jamaal Lascelles and Sven Botman may be back before the season ends. Lewis Hall is definitely out.
Brighton are unbeaten in their past four games against Newcastle across all competitions. The Seagulls haven’t lost a home game to the Magpies since the 2016-17 season, when both sides were in the Championship.
