Maurizio Sarri has made it clear that he is ready for a return to management, and AC Milan remain among his potential destinations.
Interviewed by Sky at the ‘Panchina d’oro’ award ceremony in Coverciano, Sarri answered some questions about his future and he wanted to underline that he is observing various European leagues ahead of his comeback.
“If in Italy there is a tendency to return to a defensive phase and man against man, here it passes as European football. I am following five/six European leagues and I don’t see this tendency as being so pronounced,” he said.
“You see a 2005 or a 2006-born player on the pitch, which is difficult here. I am following these young players a lot. Teams like this can give us some ideas, it is worth watching them because they have medium/high quality and are more particular.
“Where will I return to coach? Where they call me and that call is answered by a feeling, an emotion and a strong motivation.” Calciomercato.com ask the question after this statement: where might Sarri go?
In Italy, we must take into consideration Milan, who last summer had already sounded out the waters for the former Lazio coach and who are practically certain of a change on the bench for next season, given that Sergio Conceicao will leave in June.
Keep an eye on Atalanta too, who could say goodbye to Gian Piero Gasperini in June and Sarri’s name is ‘more than a suggestion’. The Fiorentina option is also still alive, which – as underlined by a close friend of the coach – is one of his dreams.
Roma will have to look for a replacement for Claudio Ranieri but it feels unlikely that he will go there, and a return Juventus – who have just sacked Thiago Motta and placed Igor Tudor in charge – remains unlikely too.
Outside of Italy, then, a return to the Premier League for the former Lazio coach cannot be ruled out, after the stint with Chelsea in the 2018-19 season.
