It is often important for players of FC Barcelona to do well individually as well as collectively. After all, the Catalan club takes pride in the fact that it has always played a beautiful style of the game while also getting results. Thankfully, this season has showcased that Barcelona can still do both.
In fact, as one of the standout teams across Europe’s top leagues this season, Barça has attracted a lot of eyes and attention. Even former players and managers have taken notice of the team’s performance and have shared their thoughts as well.
Recently, former Barcelona and Spain legend David Villa also chimes in with his own words related to both Barcelona and a certain young player at the club. As highlighted by Mundo Deportivo, he spoke about the team’s season so far:
“Their season has been very good — both in terms of play and results — and it should be enjoyed. Do I see them winning a trophy? Of course. It’s not just what I think; they’ve shown it themselves. But the hardest part is still ahead.”
However, when asked if Barcelona are favorites to win the UEFA Champions League, Villa simply suggested that all remaining teams are essentially favorites in their own right:
“All the teams left are favorites. They’ve each knocked out tough opponents to get here, and that alone proves they deserve it. Reaching this stage is no easy task.”
He also spoke about 17-year-old Barcelona sensation Lamine Yamal, a player who has reportedly gained some ground in terms of the Ballon d’Or rankings as well recently, and claimed that his quality is not normal for a player of his age:
“What Lamine is doing isn’t normal — that kind of thing only happens once in a long while. But Spain has gotten better at developing young talent early, which helps players be prepared. Still, these are rare cases of special talents, like Raúl or Cesc back in the day, who also broke through at a young age.”
These were just some kind words from the former player, someone who knows exactly what it means to lift the Champions League with Barcelona, and they should be a good confidence booster. However, just as Villa himself has said, the season still needs a strong finish from the team.
