Porto goalkeeper and Manchester United target Diogo Costa has reportedly agreed to join cross-town rivals Manchester City in the summer.

United are believed to be eyeing reinforcements in the goalkeeping department amidst uncertainty over the long-term future of Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir.

Onana has endured a rough season, with his latest errors coming in the Europa League clash against Lyon, which ultimately saw him dropped to the bench for United’s Premier League meeting with Newcastle United. Bayindir stepped in for the Cameroonian but didn’t fare much better.

Bayındır conceded four goals from just six shots on target and was at fault for Newcastle’s fourth goal at St James’ Park, capping off a disappointing outing for the United goalkeeper.

Despite returning for the second leg and playing a role in the Red Devils’ dramatic 5-4 win that secured a spot in the semi-finals, Onana’s future at the club remains uncertain. His error-strewn performances since arriving in 2023, coupled with the absence of a reliable alternative at Old Trafford, continue to cast doubt over his long-term role.

There have been suggestions that a permanent departure could be on the horizon in the coming months, with the 29-year-old goalkeeper continuing to be linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League.

Meanwhile, United have been mentioned to be looking at potential replacements including James Trafford (Burnley), Lucas Chevalier (Lille), Senne Lammens (Royal Antwerp), Bart Verbruggen (Brighton and Hove Albion) and of course, Costa.

A previous report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Ruben Amorim wants Costa to replace Onana.

It was subsequently noted that City were also interested in the Porto shot-stopper and would compete with United for his signature.

Now, Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna has revealed that Costa has agreed to join the reigning Premier League champions.

According to Aouna, Costa has “given the initial green light” to City and wants to become the latest addition to Pep Guardiola’s ranks. He has accepted the project.

Talks remain ongoing between all parties to try and thrash out a deal. Costa’s agent, Jorge Mendes, is understood to be “pushing” to strike an agreement.

Costa’s contract with Porto runs until 2027 and contains a €75m release clause.
