Inter Milan booked their place in the semifinals of the Champions League by beating Bayern Munich on aggregate in the quarterfinals.

Inter went into yesterday’s second leg of the tie with a 2-1 first leg lead to protect.

But Bayern managed to erase that early in the second half. Harry Kane finally got on the scoresheet, completely changing the dynamic of the tie.

With the momentum suddenly on their side, the Bavarians looked ready to complete the comeback.

However, Inter swiftly shifted it right back. They replied to Kane’s goal in emphatic fashion, with set piece goals from Lautaro Martinez and former Bayern defender Benjamin Pavard.

Inter keeper Yann Sommer gave his thoughts after the final whistle. “I’m very happy,” said the Swiss.

“These were two very tough matches.”

“Today we had to suffer,” Sommer continued. “But I’m happy. It’s not easy against a team like that, there’s a lot of pressure.”

“We defended well,” the 36-year-old said. “And we scored the goals at the right time tonight.”

“After they scored and made it 0-1, it was a difficult situation.”

“But we did well from there. We had courage, we knew that we could score a goal.”

“With two chances, we scored two goals at the perfect tie,” said Sommer. “And energy at the San Siro was incredible.”

Meanwhile, Yann Sommer gave his thoughts on the fact that Inter now face Barcelona in the next round. “I’m happy for this match tonight,” he said. “Now we’ll prepare for the next match.”

“We’re facing another extremely strong team,” the Inter keeper said. “But if we play the way we did against Bayern, we can get through to the final.”
