Despite the fact we’ve been told many times that Chelsea are pretty happy with the options they already have in goal, the Blues are constantly linked with players they could buy in the summer in that position.
The latest rumour comes from CaughtOffside, who say that the Blues and Man City are both among the teams watching Roma goalkeeper Mile Svilar and thinking about a move for him in the summer.
After coming into the team under Daniele De Rossi, Svilar has done a great job for the Serie A team, and with his contract winding down he’s becoming an increasingly realistic target for many Premier League teams.
“Sources close to the situation” say that Svilar is not interested in signing a new deal, and that Chelsea, City and the likes of Newcastle are all attentive to his next move.
The 25 year old would cost around €35m according to this piece, a real bargain for a player of that age and quality. It would be an instant upgrade to the Blues’ first team, in most people’s opinion.
There’s nothing concrete here yet, but it looks like his situation will only grow more interesting as time passes and his contract winds down.

If Chelsea don’t sign Svilar or another keeper, it looks likely that Djorde Petrovic will return from his loan at Strasbourg to compete to be number one for Enzo Maresca.
Surely, after a third season in a row where he’s been dropped by his club for a period, those upstairs have accepted that Robert Sanchez is not a long term solution. Young Mike Penders is certainly highly rated, but as a teenager who is only just starting to play first team football in Belgium, he’s a long way off being ready to start for us.
