Former Real Madrid midfielder Alvaro Benito has suggested a potential replacement for Toni Kroos, identifying AC Milan’s Tijjani Reijnders as the ideal candidate.

Benito highlighted Reijnders’ qualities and suggested that the 26-year-old AC Milan star could seamlessly fit into Real Madrid’s midfield.

“You’re not going to touch Bellingham, but you can take anyone out in either position,” Benito stated, implying that Reijnders has the talent to be a starter in Madrid’s midfield.

Reijnders has grown into one of Milan’s key midfielders since his arrival from AZ Alkmaar in 2023. The Rossoneri paid €20.5 million for him, but his value has since skyrocketed.

Given the performances he has put in this season, it comes has no surprise that the Dutch midfielder is on the radar of several European giants.

Reijnders has openly spoken about his admiration for Barcelona legend Andres Iniesta, revealing that he watched the Spanish maestro closely as a child.

“My favourite position on the pitch? Number 8, of course. Lately, I’ve been playing higher up, at number 10, but it’s just to compensate for some absences.

“I was inspired by Andres Iniesta, whom I watched a lot as a kid,” he had confessed.

The Dutch international sees himself as a player who can contribute both in build-up play and finishing, though he admits that winning back possession is an area where he could improve.

His technical ability, vision, and movement make him a natural fit for a team like Real Madrid, especially as they look to transition away from Toni Kroos’ era.

While Real Madrid’s midfield is stacked with talent, including Bellingham, Eduardo Camavinga, Aurelien Tchouameni, and Federico Valverde, Benito’s endorsement of Reijnders could spark discussions at the club.
