According to a report from The Times, Liverpool centre back Ibrahima Konaté (25) is demanding a hefty wage increase in order to commit his future to the Premier League leaders. The 25-year-old’s contract at Anfield is set to expire in 2026, and the Merseyside outfit will be keen to avoid a repeat of the situation they currently face with Mohamed Salah, Virgil Van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The Reds began talks with Konaté over a new deal in October, but despite initial signs of promise, talks of an extension soon quietened down. With no deal still agreed in April, 6 months on, talks of a potential move to Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid have increased. Both clubs are reportedly interested in the France international defender.

A huge increase

The Times reports that Konaté’s representatives are demanding a £120,000 increase in his wages to convince him to stay put in the North West of England. The former RB Leipzig defender currently earns £80,000 a week, and such an increase would see his weekly wage increase to £200,000 a week.
