In an interview with The Anfield Index, David Lynch revealed that there is a ‘lack of encouragement’ surrounding a potential contract extension for Ibrahima Konaté (25) at Liverpool. The former RB Leipzig centre-back’s contract at Anfield is set to expire at the end of next season.
In a month where Liverpool have signed Virgil Van Dijk and Mohamed Salah to new contracts, concern is beginning to grow that contract speculation surrounding the Frenchman’s future could become a hot topic as it has become with three key players’ deals running to a close this season. The Reds will also want to avoid a repeat of the situation they face with Trent Alexander-Arnold, as he looks set to join Real Madrid on a free transfer.
PSG are interested in signing Konaté, and Lynch believes that the interest from his hometown club could be a reason for the lack of progress in contract negotiations between the Premier League club and the 25-year-old. The France international is requesting a pay increase of £120,000 a week, according to The Times.
