Italian rivals Milan and Inter face off in the second leg of the Coppa Italia Semi-final. The teams are all tied up on aggregate, sharing a goal a piece. With an abysmally bad 2024-2025, this looks like it might be Milan's last chance at European football next season. Inter, on the other hand, have a shot at a treble, and after zero wins against the Rossoneri this season, they're hungry for a win.
The intensity of these teams is on full display with Bisseck stopping Rafa Leao in his tracks right off the bat. The two are replicating that Dumfries-Hernandez rivalry early on in this match.
The game has been a back and forth with Inter having most of the chances. The formation change of a 3-4-3 for Milan's defenders has so far been working. Still, Inter looks like they're aiming to get goals while Milan is trying to hold them off. The attacking front three outside of Leao have barely had the ball. Milan captain Mike Maignan comes up with a huge save after a counterattack from Inter. Any time Milan look to go forward, Inter defenders close them down with ease.
Inter have been in total control of this game, barely giving Milan room to breathe. The deadlock was broken with Luka Jovic, who's been struggling with injuries this season, scoring in the 35th minute. Alex Jimenez, who's also been struggling, gets his first assist of the season.
Once again, it's Jovic who comes up big for Milan! Milan's number 9 slots it into the back of the net after a corner from Theo Hernandez. In the most unlikely twist this season, Luka Jovic has 4 goals in his last 5 games after being all but written out of the team! Desperate, Inter goes for broke making four changes immediately following.
Matteo Gabbia goes down after heading the ball with a header, immediately reaching for his neck. This is worrying for a Milan side that has been reliant on a new defensive tactic. Gabbia, who was having a positive game, is replaced by Malick Thiaw. Not too long after, Maignan goes down after making a massive save. He gets back up, resuming a stellar performance.
Milan have managed to hold off Inter for most of the second half. Tiji Reijnders seals the deal, scoring off of a beautiful play from Leao. The Rossoneri trump Inter (once again), winning 4-1 on aggregate, advancing to the Coppa Italia final! 5 games this season, and no wins against a struggling Milan for the prospective Scudetto champions - absolutely wild!
