Simone Inzaghi talked to the press after Inter Milan suffered a shocking 3-0 loss to AC Milan in the Coppa Italia semi-finals.

During his post-match chat with Sport Mediaset via FCInterNews, the 49-year-old urged his side to overcome fatigue.

Out of steam amid a congested fixture schedule, Inter looked like a shadow of their former selves in tonight’s clash.

Indeed, after missing three promising chances in the first 35 minutes, the Nerazzurri disappeared from the pitch.

Luka Jovic’s header to open the scoring toward the end of the first half proved the turning point for Milan.

The same player doubled Rossoneri’s lead at the start of the second half, marking the beginning of the end for Inter’s treble dream.

Finally, Tijjani Reijdners capped Milan’s remarkable showing off with an 85th-minute strike to make it 3-0.

It wasn’t the performance, let alone the result Simone Inzaghi had hoped for before the kick-off, especially after a first-leg draw.

However, fatigue seemingly took its toll.

“We’re sorry for our fans, but this is football,” Inzaghi started. “Credit to Milan because they played a great match.

“We regret not getting more out of the first half where we deserved better.

“They scored a beautiful goal the first time they entered our box, and we should’ve been more alert.

“On the second goal, we were also unlucky – there was a deflection off Barella, even though we were positioned well.

“But in the second half, we did much less than in the first.

“Of course, we’re not used to losing, and we have to analyze both matches properly.

“We didn’t deserve to lose in Bologna, and tonight we lacked energy in the second half.

“The 2-0 goal shifted the momentum, and their goalkeeper did well to save De Vrij’s chance.

“But full credit to Milan, who have made things difficult for us across five games. We had to do more.”

Time To Wake Up

Then, Inzaghi discussed fatigue’s influence on Inter’s recent slumps.

“There’s no point in denying it, but we have to keep going. We need to be stronger than fatigue, the fixture list, and the number of matches.

“We’re Inter, and we chose this path that’s brought us a lot of joy, but also some disappointment.

“Tonight, we needed to do better. We came up short in the crucial moments, in both boxes, and that’s where games are decided.

“I didn’t say it’s just a fatigue issue, and it must not become an excuse.

“We lacked sharpness in the boxes, and that’s where we paid the price.

“Every team is tired. Yes, we’ve had a more congested calendar than others, but that’s not an excuse.

“We have to work harder, and tonight we needed to do more to reach the final.

“We have a demanding month ahead, but we need to have faith. The club is with us.

“Milan made it to the final tonight, and now we have to recover and get back to it. Against Roma, we’ll play our game.”
