With Inter set to face Bayern Munich in the second-leg of the UEFA Champions League at the Stadio San Siro this evening, the Get Italian Football news  exclusively spoke to Nerazzurri journalist and host of the official English-speaking Inter podcast Richard Hall,  previewing the highly anticipated fixture.

With the Bisicione set to take the pitch with a one-goal lead on aggregate in courtesy of skipper Lautaro Martinez’s scorching finish Davide Frattessi’s last-gasp winner, Richard was asked how coach Simone Inzaghi’s approach and tactics could alter in comparison to their trip to the Allianz.

“This week has been strange in the media approaching the fixture has coach Vincent Kompany has been heavily focused and emphasizing that he foresees Inzaghi making drastic changes.

“However, I don’t think Simone will make too many changes as we know that he is very strong in preparing tactically for matches, as we witnessed his Nerazzurri side cope and soak the pressure against Premier League giants Arsenal and Manchester City.

“I am intrigued to see whether the wing-backs might be more tucked in than usual, but I envision similar attacking patterns up-top and Inter attempting to exploit the width as they usually do under the former Lazio boss.”

In addition, Richard was asked if there should be major concern for Inter given their consistent mental collapses towards the latter stages of the game and tendency to concede ample of goals within the last fifteen minutes of play, an issue that is stark opposite to Inzaghi’s title-winning side last season.

“I think Inter deserve more credit and we should feel more confident given that they have only conceded three goals throughout the entire Champions League so far, and having finished the group stage of the tournament with the fewest goals conceded amongst all European giants.

“As long as Inter remain focused and try as much as possible to avoid unforced errors, I think they will be fine this evening and manage to move past Bayern.

“Another key factor that Inter have is the amazing atmosphere of the San Siro supporting them throughout this difficult match. I was at the league fixture against Cagliari and the fans were electric, so I wouldn’t undermine how much of a hostile environment the San Siro could be for any visiting opposition.”

Finally, Richard was asked who he viewed as the pivotal players and driving forces that will need to rise to the occasion in order for Inter to continue their impeccable Champions League run.

“I certainly think Yann Sommer key player this evening. His ability to play out of the back and distribute to his central backs with great precision is a skill that cannot be found in all shot-stoppers. He knows Bayern well after having played for them and also against them during his time at Borussia Monchengladbach and this is certainly a big occasion for him.

“Of course, Nicolo Barella will also be a major asset this evening in the central park as he possesses the ability to dictate the tempo when in the attacking phase, immaculate passing range, and a capability to change gears in swift fashion.”
