Juventus director Cristiano Giuntoli took stock of the Champions League race and provided an update on the future of their bench speaking with DAZN before the disappointing loss to Parma (via TuttoSport).
“The last few matches might have increased the quota to reach the top four. However, we have to focus on ourselves. As for the coach, we’ve been clear from the beginning: we want and wish to continue together. However, we’ll make a decision only at the end of the Club World Cup.”
Giuntoli also discussed how Juventus handled the postponement.
“We’ve been very careful, upping the intensity in training but without going overboard with the volume. This situation created some annoyance, like for all the other sides.”
Per Calciomercato, Tudor agreed to a contract until July with an automatic renewal if the Bianconeri qualify for the Champions League. However, the team can cancel it through a clause, paying a small penalty. He’ll make €500k until the summer and eventually €2M if he stays next year.
The Old Lady fell back to fifth place after being defeated by Parma, as Bologna topped Inter over the weekend. All the other contenders were successful, compacting the fray.
In reality, the call will have to come much sooner if they want a top-notch gaffer, as those don’t sit around waiting. There’ll be plenty of backchanneling. The Club World Cup won’t be the deciding factor, and it could turn out to be an awkward tournament with a lame duck boss, but rather the race to fourth place and the team’s performances. Wednesday’s baffling showing surely didn’t play in the coach’s favor.
