Liverpool are interested in a deal to sign Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa but consider a transfer ‘complicated’.
Rogers has been watched on multiple times by the Reds’ recruitment team this season and is a player of interest ahead of the summer. The 22-year-old has scored 14 goals and provided a further 12 assists across all competitions, impressing as Aston Villa reached the Champions League quarter-finals.
His goal threat, ball-carrying and homegrown status all appeal to Liverpool, who are expected to invest following their Premier League title success this season.
Chelsea are also admirers of Rogers, though Aston Villa are reluctant to lose the midfielder. However, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Liverpool are monitoring his situation closely should an opportunity open up. Villa are understood to be running close to UEFA’s threshold for Financial Fair Play rules.
Discussing Villa’s potential need to bring in funds, Football Finance expert Kieran Maguire said: “Their wages have been 90 per cent of the revenue. UEFA says anything over 70 is something they have to be concerned about.
“They’ve done well in terms of progress in the Champions League, which has boosted the money in. But at the same time, players would have had substantial bonuses.”
Villa would make a significant profit on Rogers’ sale, having signed the midfielder from Middlesbrough for just £8m in January 2024.
