Lőw, 45, will oversee his first training session on Monday, with Die Roten Bullen preparing for Wednesday's DFB Cup semi-final at VfB Stuttgart.

“Zsolt Lőw has got everything we need to turn things around quickly and give performances a boost. He has an incredible amount of experience, a lot of success at top European clubs, and the right approach,” said managing director Marcel Schäfer. “It’s now up to the team to turn the tide together with Zsolt. At the same time, we’re working on finding a permanent head coach for the start of the 2025/26 season.”

Lőw added of his decision to take charge: “We’re fully focused on the maximum nine remaining games of the season. We’ve still got the chance to achieve our goals in two competitions. We’ll do everything we can to reach the DFB Cup final in Berlin and get the most out of the remaining Bundesliga matches.”

Budapest-born Lőw spent most of his playing career in Germany as a left-back with Energie Cottbus, Hansa Rostock, Hoffenheim and Mainz. The former Hungary international then moved into coaching at Red Bull Salzburg and spent three seasons working as assistant at Leipzig under Ralph Hasenhüttl and Ralf Rangnick.

His last three coaching jobs were as assistant to Thomas Tuchel - whom he played under at Mainz - at Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and most recently Bayern Munich. He has since worked as head of soccer development at Red Bull.
