During the halftime of Barcelona’s Copa del Rey semi-final clash against Atletico Madrid, Spanish national team coach Luis de la Fuente took the opportunity to address recent speculation surrounding Inigo Martinez.

According to the coach, there is no controversy or ongoing issue involving the player. Instead, De la Fuente clarified that Martinez’s absence was solely due to injury and that any claims suggesting otherwise were untrue.

The coach explained that the Barcelona defender remains a valuable part of the Spanish national team setup, and he can be called up whenever he is fit and available.

“There’s no issue with Inigo, he can come whenever he’s selected, whenever he wants.

“Nothing has happened; things have been said that have nothing to do with reality. He didn’t come due to injury,” he said, as quoted by MARCA.

He highlighted the talent emerging from the squad, particularly mentioning young stars like Lamine Yamal and Pedri. Their performances have generated significant excitement and optimism, both for the present and the future of Spanish football.

“I’m excited too, because they’re very good. They’re very good players, and we have a lot to choose from,” he said.

The Spanish national team coach also conveyed his enjoyment of the Copa del Rey, a competition that continues to showcase some of Spain’s most exciting talents.

As he continues to monitor player performances across various competitions, De la Fuente is clearly optimistic about the direction in which his squad is heading.
