Manchester United are reportedly prepared to make major sales to win the race for their “top target” Victor Osimhen.
Harry Maguire impressed in his role as a number nine in United’s 5-4 win over Olympique Lyonnais, brilliantly using his massive frame to outmuscle defenders. It was Maguire’s prowess in the air that rattled Lyon’s net for the fifth time, completing a historic comeback for the Red Devils.
However, for the better part of the 90 minutes, United’s attack was led by Rasmus Hojlund, who delivered yet another underwhelming performance.
United intend to sign a new striker to spearhead their attack and are reportedly prepared to push Hojlund as well as Joshua Zirkzee out of the club in their ambitious pursuit.
According to Teamtalk, Osimhen is United’s “top target” but they face competition from Arsenal for his signature.
With 29 goals in 33 appearances for Galatasaray, the Nigerian has underlined he is still one of the best strikers in Europe. However, despite his prolific time in Istanbul, the star forward is expected to leave the club upon the expiration of his loan deal at the end of the campaign.
Osimhen will return to Napoli but it is claimed “he is destined” to part ways with the Serie A outfit permanently this summer.
Any club interested in signing the 26-year-old will have to trigger a €75m release clause in his contract.
Due to their financial fair play concerns, United need to sell players before they can match his release clause. It is understood that INEOS could offload both Hojlund and Zirkzee.
The reported stance on the Netherlands international is certainly surprising as before his season-ending injury, the ex-Bologna man looked very promising, especially as a number 10.
Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming Ruben Amorim is keen to keep hold of Zirkzee.
The same can’t be said about Hojlund though, as the 22-year-old has not shown any signs of improvement.
