One midfielder highly-rated within the European game was shown a 100-page presentation by one club during a meeting in January, with Manchester City and Arsenal known to be interested.
It was confirmed in the final week of the recent January transfer window that Sverre Nypan of Rosenborg visited Manchester City, who presented their proposal to the 18-year-old midfielder including a potential loan to Girona.
Follow-up reporting around the player detailed that Nypan would also travel to London ahead of talks with Arsenal, having spent a few days in Manchester with his family and agent Rafaela Pimenta in Erling Haaland’s box to watch City beat Chelsea in the Premier League.
Interest in Sverre Nypan was part of widespread transfer business from the Premier League champions during the winter window, with several deals completed for players with a view towards the longer-term future.
Etihad Stadium officials – led by Txiki Begiristain with input from his successor in the summer, Hugo Viana – welcomed Juma Bah from Real Valladolid, before sending the Sierra Leone centre-back to Lens on loan for the remainder of the ongoing campaign.
There was also the arrival of highly-rated England youth international left-back Christian McFarlane from New York City FC, who has since been integrated into the club’s Academy system before a decision could be made on his next steps in the coming summer.
Now, speaking during a new conversation with TV 2 in Norway, the aforementioned midfielder Sverre Nypan has spoken of growing transfer interest in Europe, particularly in January, “In this transfer window, people talked a lot about me leaving Rosenborg.
“That’s when you start thinking that way yourself. When there are such big clubs in the picture, it’s a bit difficult to keep a cool head.”
On the subject of the well-documented face-to-face meetings with Arsenal and Manchester City in England during the winter market, the 18-year-old continued, “They talk to me first. And show interest, in a way…
“And then they talk themselves up, and tell me how I should fit into their system. It’s a recurring thing from most clubs.”
Sverre Nypan’s father, Arne also revealed to TV 2 that one club they met at had seen the teenager live on 28 occasions, while at least one club uploaded a video showing all the touches he had on the ball in a match as a senior player.
The midfielder’s father also revealed that one club came up with a presentation of over 100 pages, as he said, “The information the clubs have about Sverre is quite overwhelming.
“It is at that level that one club shows clips of Sverre in specific situations when he both has the ball and does not have the ball. Then they transfer it directly to their own team to show how he fits into the team’s game model.”
And a decision on the midfielder’s future in the game is close, as Arne Nypan explained, “Ideally, it (a decision) will be in place before the start of the series (on March 29 away to Strømsgodset).”
For now, it remains to be seen just what the reaction was to Manchester City’s discussions with the player, although further details could emerge in the coming weeks, regardless of the decision expected to be made by those involved soon.
