There were no penalty incidents in yesterday’s Serie A clash between Inter Milan and Udinese, but referee Daniele Chiffi failed to show yellow cards.

This is the view in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

In the end, refereeing incidents were hardly a decisive factor in yesterday’s match between Inter Milan and Udinese.

There were no controversial penalties. And the only sending off was for Inter coach Simone Inzaghi, protesting what he saw as a foul on Joaquin Correa.

However, that did not mean that referee Daniele Chiffi had a performance to remember. Or such is the view in the Gazzetta dello Sport.

Chiffi was quite lenient as far as blowing his whistle and handing out yellow cards yesterday.

The official appeared content to allow the two sets of players to play and get physical.

But towards the end of the second half, there was evidence of the problems with this approach.

Chiffi should have shown a yellow card to Udinese midfielder Jurgen Ekkelenkamp for a foul on Henrikh Mkhitaryan. The Gazzetta argue.

Then, the newspaper suggest, Martin Payero also should have seen yellow for a late challenge on Nicolo Barella.
