Millie Bright believes ‘nothing is impossible’ when it comes to Chelsea reaching the Champions League final, despite players ‘not representing the badge’ in the first leg.

The Blues trail 4-1 after the first leg in Barcelona, but the Chelsea captain remains confident her side can overturn the deficit against the current holders of the competition.

After a performance in Spain that saw the Women’s Super League champions unravel at the hands of the three-time European champions, the 31-year-old expressed her confidence ahead of the second leg.

Bright said: “Of course it’s a big ask, but going into any game and trying to perform against the top team is a big ask.

“But our mentality is to go out there, score goals, win and get through to that final. Nothing is impossible within football or in sport if you have the right mentality and the right attitude.

“Coming out of the first leg, we didn’t present ourselves in the right way. We didn’t play as Chelsea core values and represent the badge. You put that kit on and you want to play in a certain manner. And I think that’s where we were really disappointed within ourselves.

“So it’s a fantastic opportunity to really show what Chelsea are about. And let’s remember that they’re coming to our house and it’s our home turf, and we want to play in our conditions.”

Chelsea’s defeat at Estadi Johan Cruyff marked just their second loss of the entire season. Their only other defeat came in the Champions League quarter-final first leg against Manchester City – a tie they were able to overturn at home to progress to the semis.

Despite goalkeeper Hannah Hampton saving an early penalty, Chelsea conceded four goals in Barcelona, a defensive display that centre-back Bright is determined to put right.

“[We have to] defend better than we did in the first game.” she added. “I think for us, especially as a defender, I think that’s been something that we’ve been really good at.

“Throughout the season, we’ve been really strong and really hard to beat, hard to score against, so that was a massive disappointment.

“But we weren’t at our best, and that leaves you with an opportunity to bounce back and to really show yourself, so I think that’s the exciting thing for the group.

“We’ve been having a really good week, working really hard, and everyone knows what we need to do and what we also know what we’re capable of. So there’s a lot of confidence going into the game and everyone’s raring to go now.”
