Shortly after Eintracht Frankfurt head coach Dino Toppmöller took care to emphasise Rasmus Kristensen’s importance to the team on Wednesday, the Danish fullback’s permanent purchase from Leeds United was confirmed. Kristensen joins the Bundesliga outfit from Yorkshire on a new contract valid until 2029. Multiple German footballing media sources reports that Eintracht have negotiated a lower fee than the original purchase clause.
Kicker claims that SGE board-member-for-sport Markus Krösche has negotiated the original clause of between €12m and €15m down to a base transfer fee of €6m. A further €2.5m in performance-related bonuses could flow to the Championship side. Kristensen becomes the second player to join Frankfurt from Leeds after a successful loan stint this year. Current captain Robin Koch ended up joining on a free last summer.
Kristensen quickly secured a place in the starting XI under coach Toppmöller and has already made 38 competitive appearances this season. Despite an injury break in the autumn, the 27-year-old has logged over 3,000 minutes. He has contributed three goals and four assists so far, but above all he has impressed with his mentality and consistency.
“Rasmus impresses not only with his footballing quality but also with his great mentality,” Krösche noted in a statement. “He has become a very important part of our team and we are delighted that he is staying at Eintracht for the long term.“
“I felt very comfortable in Frankfurt from the start, and my family has also settled in very well here,” the player himself added, “I fought hard to be able to play for Eintracht for longer, and I want to repay the trust placed in me with continued good performances. I’m looking forward to the final phase of the season and to the future in Frankfurt.”
