“Juventus FC announce that Thiago Motta has been relieved of his duties as Men’s First Team coach,” read a statement.

“The club would like to thank Thiago Motta and all of his staff for their professionalism and for the work they have carried out in recent months with passion and dedication. The club wish them the best of luck for the future.

“Juventus FC also announce that the Men’s First Team will now be led by Igor Tudor, who will take charge of his first training session tomorrow, Monday, 24 March.”

While director Cristiano Giuntoli had assured straight after the 3-0 defeat to Fiorentina that the club would continue with their current boss, the situation shifted during the break for international duty.

Thiago Motta was dismissed following a record of 18 victories, 16 draws and eight defeats in all competition.

This included early exits from the Champions League in the play-offs, Coppa Italia in the quarter-final against minnows Empoli, and the Supercoppa Italiana to Milan.

They sit fifth in the Serie A table, having been overtaken by Thiago Motta’s old club Bologna following two heavy defeats, 4-0 at home to Atalanta and 3-0 at Fiorentina.

Tudor takes over as interim coach until the end of the current campaign, with an option to extend his stay beyond that.

The Croatian turns 47 next month and has plenty of history at Juventus, playing for the club from 1998 to 2007.

He then returned as an assistant manager to Andrea Pirlo in the 2020-21 campaign.

Tudor’s most recent role was taking over from Maurizio Sarri at Lazio in March 2024, leaving at the end of the season.
