Following superb form in Brazil with Corinthians, Memphis Depay is back with the Dutch national team. This means that the headband-toting forward can reach a wonderful milestone, as if he plays both the home and away Nations League matches against Spain, he will have played a hundred international matches.
If successful, the 31-year-old would become the 10th international to achieve this feat. Daley Blind was the last international to join the 100 club, playing his 100th international match on 24 March 2023 in the 4-0 defeat to France. The defender eventually ended up with 108 international matches before announcing his retirement from the international game.
If Memphis only takes to the pitch once, he will still be the first international to get playing time for the Oranje while playing for a Brazilian club. Brazil would be the 21st different country where an active Dutch international plays or has played.
Brazil will join the list of countries that have also seen one club give up an international to the Netherlands, with these including Canada, Greece, Mexico, Ukraine, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, the United States and Wales. In England, 31 different clubs have provided internationals to the Dutch national team, more than Spain and Italy combined.
