According to Sky Sports journalist Patrick Berger, Ralf Rangnick is still being discussed within the BVB ranks to take a position at the club in 2025/2026. As reported by Berger, Ralf Rangnick remains a candidate to join Dortmund during the summer. However, it is unclear which position Rangnick would be in charge of.

Despite the fact that there has been no contact between the two parties since the secret meeting held in January, Hans-Joachim Watzke is known for being a fan of Rangnick, mainly due to his appreciation for Rangnick being capable of turning clubs around. Rangnick is currently the Austrian National Team manager, responsible for leading his team at the top of Group D during the 2024 Euros ahead of France and the Netherlands.

Borussia Dortmund is desperately in need of a complete turnaround following a disastrous season until this point, and Rangnick could become a priority for the Black-and-Yellows as the current sporting director, Sebastian Kehl, is in the hot seat. This news could also indicate an extreme overhaul in the squad, with players massively underperforming and contracts getting closer to an expiration date by the end of next season.

Independently of whether Rangnick joins BVB next season or not, there have been serious doubts regarding Borussia Dortmund's administration, and a season without European football could accelerate an entire transformation in the club's structure and hierarchy.
