Marcus Rashford just can’t help himself when it comes to playing at the Etihad.
The Manchester boy, currently on loan at Aston Villa, came back to familiar ground looking like he had a point to prove — and he nearly made it count straight away.
Within half a minute, he picked up a clever pass from Youri Tielemans, left Ruben Dias chasing shadows, and let fly with a shot that had Stefan Ortega beaten. But luck wasn’t on his side — the ball smacked the post and bounced straight back into the keeper’s arms. Unlucky.
But Rashford stayed involved, and a bit later, his blistering run opened up City’s defence again. He slipped the ball to Jacob Ramsey, who was then brought down by Dias in the box. VAR had a look, and the ref pointed to the spot.
Despite a chorus of jeers from the City fans, Rashford stayed ice-cool and tucked the penalty away nicely, sending Ortega the wrong way.
That goal made it four for him at the Etihad in the league — only Wayne Rooney (6) and Jamie Vardy (5) have netted more there during the Premier League era.
That also puts Rashford on seven goals in total against City in all competitions, with only Leicester having felt the sting of his finishing more times — they’ve conceded eight to him so far.
