Chelsea are reportedly confident they’re leading the race for the transfer of Ipswich Town striker and Manchester United target Liam Delap.
The England Under-21 international has shone in the Premier League this season, scoring 12 goals in 32 games for this struggling Ipswich side.
Despite getting little in the way of quality service, Delap has proven a real handful for Premier League defenders, and one can only imagine how well he’d do at a bigger club.
According to Give Me Sport, Man Utd are keen on Delap but have not been pursuing him for as long as Chelsea have, so the Blues feel internally that they have the advantage in this transfer battle.

Both Chelsea and United need to sign a striker this summer, and Delap looks like he could be a fine option for them in that position.
The 22-year-old previously struggled for playing time when he was at Manchester City earlier in his career, but he now looks ready to make the step up to starting for a top club.
Even if it’s always a bit of a gamble signing relatively inexperienced and unproven players like this, Delap looks like he’d surely be an upgrade on Nicolas Jackson at Stamford Bridge.
Meanwhile, it would be hard for Delap to be any worse than Rasmus Hojlund, whose Old Trafford future must be in doubt after a total lack of impact in his two years at the club.
It will be interesting to see, however, what happens with some other high-profile strikers who seem likely to be on the market.
Give Me Sport’s report also mentions Victor Osimhen as a possible option for United, and one can easily imagine Chelsea being interested in him if they miss out on Delap.
