Maurizio Sarri attended the ceremony for the ‘Panchina d’Oro’ award as the best coach of the 2023/2024 season, which was won by Simone Inzaghi, and provided an update on his future speaking with Sky.

“I voted for Thiago Motta since his Bologna team played the best football. Then, a lot of months passed, and people forget easily. It’s always tough to judge from the outside, as you can’t comprehend the dynamics. When the results are lacking, some things can affect the choices.”

Sarri indicated what he’s looking for at his next stop.

“I’ll go to a team that wants me and whose call sparks a sentiment, an emotion, and a strong motivation. As all coaches during these times, we try to stay updated by watching players and games. I’ve seen a tendency to go back to the man-to-man marking in Italy, which is seen a European brand of football. Instead, I’m following five or six leagues, and I don’t see this trend too much. Instead, they trust the youngsters a lot more, which is very difficult in Italy. We can draw inspiration from a few teams, which are above average and have peculiar styles.”

Sarri said his two cents on the title race.

“It’s a very uncertain season, and I wished Atalanta competed until the end because it’s a wonderful story. Inter and Napoli have been convincing from the beginning. It’s nice that the title race could be open until the end. I had the fortune of talking with Antonio Conte, and I’m happy to see him in love with a fan base, as Napoli can create that.”
