Sky Sports reporting from the Newcastle United training ground on Wednesday.
The broadcaster giving interesting updates on two players.
After Saturday’s match against Ipswich, Eddie Howe had been asked about two players who hadn’t started in the 3-0 victory.
The Newcastle United Head Coach admitting that Anthony Gordon, who came on as a second half substitute, still wasn’t 100 per cent fully fit as he recovers from a hip injury picked up when with England back in March.
Whilst having played in the previous eight Newcastle United matches, Joelinton was absent altogether from the matchday squad against Ipswich.
Eddie Howe explaining why after Saturday’s match 26 April 2025:
“Joelinton is going to see a specialist.
“He trained yesterday [Friday] but just felt his knee wasn’t 100 per cent right.
“That is the knee that he had an injury with earlier in the season.
“He has done brilliantly to play through the number of games that he has without having been 100 per cent fit, but he got to the point where he felt he needed a slight intervention, so let’s keep out fingers crossed that it isn’t serious.”
Keith Downie of Sky Sports reporting from the Newcastle United training ground today with this update – 30 April 2025:
“No Joelinton at training for Newcastle on a hot and sunny day at Benton this morning. The midfielder has seen a specialist on a knee problem that saw him miss the win over Ipswich.
“However, Anthony Gordon was in full training as Newcastle United gear up for a crucial trip to Brighton on Sunday.”
Positive on Anthony Gordon and he could have a massive role to play in these remaining four matches of the season.
As for Joelinton, not the best of news, but hoping for the best.
Hopefully the specialist has been able to reassure the Brazil international that there is nothing serious to worry about.
Fingers crossed it is a case of a week’s rest from training having done the trick, with Joelinton potentially returning to training at the end of the week, then getting no reaction if training on Friday and Saturday ahead of Brighton.
It goes without saying that having Joelinton available for the last three weeks of the season would be a massive boost.
