Arne Slot has criticised his side’s defending during Liverpools’s 3-2 defeat at Fulham.
Liverpool lost for the first time away from home in the Premier League this season after falling to defeat in West London. The Reds took the lead through Alexis Mac Allister’s stunning strike, but imploded to trail 3-1 at the interval.
Ryan Sessegnon equalised for Fulham after Curtis Jones miscued a clearance into the winger’s path, before another unforced error saw the hosts take the lead. Andy Robertson’s cross-field pass was intercepted with Fulham punishing the mistake to score through Alex Iwobi.
Fulham’s third completed a 14-minute burst from the home side as Rodrigo Muniz got the better of Virgil van Dijk in a duel to score.
Liverpool improved after half-time and pulled a goal back as substitutes Conor Bradley and Luis Diaz combined, but the Premeir League leaders were unable to find a leveller. Slot’s side missed the chance to extend their lead in the title race to 14 points. Defeat was Liverpool’s first since September, a run of 26 games.
Speaking to BBC Match of the Day, Slot criticised the preventable goals his side shipped.
“It’s not often we concede three goals let alone in one game or 15 minutes. We could have prevented it. We scored a good goal but apart from that the second half performance was much more what we’re like.
“Conceding three goals like we did is not of the standards of Liverpool. We were creating chance after chance after chance [towards the end]. In the end we lacked time to make up for the three mistakes we made in the first half.”
