Luka Jovic had a surprise resurgence in the final stages of the season, and, while he was widely expected to leave Milan at the end of his contract in June, his permanence is back on the table, Calciomercato informs.

The Serbian striker willed his team to victory in the return leg of the Coppa Italia Derby with a brace. His performance didn’t come out of the blue. He had hit the net in two of his previous five showings, drawing back-to-back starts in Serie A.

Jovic seemed destined to completely fall out of favor after Milan added Santiago Gimenez in January. However, the Mexican international struggled to find his footing in Serie A, leaving an opening that his deputies have fully exploited.

The Rossoneri will have time until the second week of July to decide whether they want to keep the former Real Madrid forward by unilaterally extending his deal for another campaign. Even when he wasn’t getting any minutes and not even making the bench at times, he has always turned down every offer to leave San Siro.

Our Take on Milan and Jovic

The time he missed due to sports-hernia surgery turned out to be highly beneficial, as he’s been moving a lot better lately, and the talent has always been there. He’s more at ease with two attackers close to him in their new scheme, as he’s not a pure goal poacher. While advisable to avoid any depth issue, keeping three strikers for one spot would be excessive if they didn’t play in the cups. He’s surely a lot less expensive than Tammy Abraham.
