ESPN’s Gab and Juls show is always a good option to get into some of the more technical details of European football, and today was a great example as they looked at Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly’s comments at a business conference in Hong Kong this week.

Boehly admitted there that a resolution on the future of Chelsea’s stadium was needed or the ownership group might split up, hinting at the long rumoured dispute between himself and the Clearlake part of the  group, headed up by Behdad Eghbali.

“This is the first time we’ve had an admission on the record [of the disagreement],” Gabriele Marcotti pointed out in his discussion of the comments.

“Todd Boehly isn’t as involved day to day with the club as he was, he’s not calling the shots the way he was. This to me is a signal – ‘hey, if someone wants to buy me out, I might listen and for the right price I might do it.'”

It was also notable that Boehly repeatedly referred to Chelsea as “they” rather than “we.”

Boehly’s comments about Chelsea “stability” raises eyebrows

Todd Boehly speaks about Chelsea’s future at Stamford Bridge.

They also discussed Boehly’s other comments which dismissed concerns about the team’s progress on the pitch:

“If you look at the evolution of the team, it’s young, the players have long contracts, there’s a core stability there. We’re executing a plan that will have Chelsea where they need to be,” Boehly claimed.

His mention of “core stability” raised some eyebrows and generated some arch comments about Robert Sanchez and his ability to provide stability of any kind.

“Let’s see how many players leave and join this squad, it’s already been a lot in the last 18 months or so,” Julien  Laurens added, quite rightly.
