Manchester City have been linked with an audacious €100 million swoop for Barcelona midfielder Pedri to replace Kevin De Bruyne.
De Bruyne will turn 34 in June, two days before his current Manchester City deal is set to expire amidst speculation around the Belgian’s future at the Etihad Stadium.
It remains to be seen how the rest of the season plays out, with no imminent decision expected from any party as City look to finish in the Premier League top four and win an eighth FA Cup title.
Pep Guardiola has refrained from taking a stance on De Bruyne’s future publicly, often stating it remains between player and club when pressed on the impending contract decision.
Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz has been reported to be heading Manchester City’s wishlist to replace De Bruyne should he leave in the summer amid interest from the Major League Soccer and Saudi Pro League.
Wirtz is understood to prefer a move to Real Madrid and has also attracted interest from Bayer Munich, who have publicly admitted the 21-year-old is a priority target for the Bundesliga giants for the summer transfer window.
It was reported recently that Manchester City are plotting a sensational €100 million move for Barcelona’s Pedri, who is contracted with the Spanish club till 2030.
However, MARCA have revealed this week that these reports are wide of the mark, with City not planning a swoop for the Barcelona academy graduate, as relayed by Sport Witness.
Manchester City are planning a big summer ahead of the arrival of newly-appointed sporting director Hugo Viana, with plenty of incomings and outgoings expected following a challenging season for the reigning Premier League champions.
Barcelona are firm in their stance that Pedri is not for sale and Manchester City are reportedly yet to communicate their interest in the midfielder should they register their interest in the 22-year-old from Bajamar.
