Former Manchester United and England star Wayne Rooney has thrown his backing behind Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold’s long-touted move to Real Madrid.
The name of defender Alexander-Arnold has of course long proven a prominent one in the Spanish media headlines.
This comes amid the widespread understanding that the right-back has been identified as a prime summer transfer target on the part of Real Madrid.
Ahead of the expiration of his contract with Liverpool in the summer, the 26-year-old has been earmarked as the ideal long-term replacement for Dani Carvajal.
Alexander-Arnold, for his part, is seen as keen on the move, a call which has left those of a Liverpool persuasion less than impressed.
As alluded to above, though, on Tuesday, the Englishman has been backed by one of the Three Lions’ all-time greats.
Speaking to the BBC, in quotes relaid by Marca, Wayne Rooney had the following to say when asked for his take on Alexander-Arnold’s potential move to Spain’s capital:
“Madrid is the same now, with Mbappé, Bellingham, and Vinícius, so it’s normal that Trent is attracted to it. Anyone would feel the same. He’s been at Liverpool since he was six, but the reality is that most players leave at some point, which is why there are so few ‘one club men’ like Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher. I wouldn’t blame Trent for wanting to do something different, a new challenge in a new country; Spain could be a great move for him.”
