In the aftermath of PSG’s 3-1 defeat to Nice in Ligue 1 on Friday evening, Luis Enrique downplayed the quality and the achievements of his team ahead of preparing to face Arsenal in the UEFA Champions League semi-finals.
Les Parisiens have received lots of plaudits for their performances and achievements in the second half of the season. Their impressive displays against Liverpool and Aston Villa in Europe’s premier competition and almost invincible season in Ligue 1 has seen pundits and fans alike, including Jamie Carragher, brand PSG as the best team in Europe.
Until their defeat against Nice, the French capital club had gone 30 games unbeaten in the top flight. Although this record is no longer available to Luis Enrique’s men, the Ligue 1 champions could still complete an unprecedented treble.
Despite a still history-defining season potentially awaiting PSG, the Spaniard has been keen to downplay their quality and status ahead of their grudge match against Arsenal in the UCL. Speaking to the media after his side’s first Ligue 1 defeat of the season, the Les Parisiens boss said, “We’re not the best in Europe, we never claimed to be that.”
