Why Man Utd have edge over other 13 Premier League clubs chasing Tyler Dibling | OneFootball

Manchester United are thought to have an "ace card" in the pursuit of Southampton winger Tyler Dibling, who is being chased by the majority of the Premier League.

19-year-old Dibling has impressed in an otherwise disastrous season for Southampton that could yet see the club record the Premier League lowest ever points tally – they need three more to better Derby County's 11 from an appalling 2007/08 campaign.

Among his impressive performances have been home and away against Manchester United.

The Daily Mail writes that United scouts watched Dibling start for England’s Under-19 side in a win against Wales last week. But, including the Red Devils, there are as many as 14 Premier League clubs also showing interest in the teenage prospect. Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City have previously been named, with overseas admiration also emerging from Bayern Munich.

In addition to United, Liverpool are another specifically mentioned as tracking Dibling, with further German interest coming from RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund.

That "ace card" in United's hand is technical director Jason Wilcox, who was Southampton's director of football before being poached for a senior role in the new sporting hierarchy at Old Trafford. The suggestion is that if Wilcox can use his influence to persuade Dibling to choose United, the youngster is ripe for being transformed into a wing-back in Ruben Amorim's tactical system.

United recently missed out another teenager for whom that was a possible option, with Geovany Quenda trading Sporting CP for Chelsea. Amorim handed the 17-year-old Portugal international his chance at Sporting, but Chelsea have moved quickly to seal a £44m deal ahead of the summer. It came as part of a double raid that will also see Dario Essugo move to Stamford Bridge.
