Ipswich have won their last two meetings with Wolverhampton Wanderers, seeking a third successive victory in this fixture for the first time in 44 years.
A few weeks ago, this looked like being a crucial relegation six-pointer. Well, the recent form of both teams means that is, more or less, not the case. This is partially because Wolverhampton Wanderers have hauled themselves clear of danger in recent weeks, winning four of their last seven Premier League matches, including both of the last two.
On Tuesday night, Jørgen Strand Larsen was the only scorer as Wolves beat West Ham at Molineux, claiming three more precious points. The Norwegian had also bagged a brace at Southampton in the Old Gold's previous outing, a 2-1 win, meaning Vítor Pereira's team are now a humungous nine points clear of the bottom three, having been in serious peril not so long ago. So now, can Wolves claim a third successive Premier League victory for the first time since December 2023?
In stark contrast to their resurgence visitors, Ipswich Town were the only team in England's top four divisions yet to win in 2025, well until Wednesday that is. In mid-week, goals from Nathan Broadhead and then talisman Liam Delap saw the Blues beat Bournemouth 2-1 by the South Coast.
Nevertheless, due to the fact Kieran McKenna's team had yielded a miserly two points from their previous ten outings, Ipswich are still nine points from safety, albeit they can close that gap to six with a victory here. One of the four wins the Tractor Boys have enjoyed so far did come at Molineux in December and, one feels, if there is going to be any semblance of a relegation battle going forward, this is simply must win.
Kieran McKenna was without Leif Davis and Omari Hutchinson, two of their most influential player, in mid-week, making the win all the more extraordinary. Both are doubts again here, while Chiedozie Ogbene, Wes Burns and Sammie Szmodics remain sidelined long-term.
In Hutchinson's absence, Ben Johnson was pushed further forward at Bournemouth, with scorer Nathan Broadhead also starting, but will either Jaden Philogene or Jack Clarke return? Lastly, star striker Liam Delap must be careful, as he's a yellow card away from a two-match suspension.
Ipswich Town predicted lineup vs Wolverhampton Wanderers: (4-5-1): Palmer; Tuanzebe, O'Shea, Burgess, Townsend; Cajuste, Morsy, Philogene, Hutchinson, Enciso; Delap.
Liam Delap has 11 Premier League goals to his name this season, and if Ipswich are going to pull off a great escape, chances are he's going to be at the forefront of it.
This is the final match of Matheus Cunha's four-game suspension; he'll return against Spurs next Sunday. Luckily, Jørgen Strand Larsen has come to the fore in his absence. Vítor Pereira could name an unchanged lineup from Tuesday's win, featuring Jean-Ricner Bellegarde and Marshall Munetsi in-behind the lone striker, while Yerson Mosquera and Saša Kalajdžić remain sidelined.
Wolverhampton Wanderers predicted lineup vs Ipswich Town: (3-4-3): José Sá; Doherty, Agbadou, Toti; Semedo, André, João Gomes, Aït-Nouri; Munetsi, Bellegarde, Strand Larsen.
As alluded to, Jørgen Strand Larsen has found form in recent weeks, scoring three in his last two appearances, so will he net in a third successive Premier League outing?
We are backing Wolves for a win in Suffolk that would all but mathematically end the relegation scrap, believing the visitors will have too much quality: Ipswich Town 1-2 Wolverhampton Wanderers.
