The match ends 1–0 in favour of Liverpool at the King Power Stadium, pushing the Reds one step closer to the Premier League title. There’s no denying this is a special moment for Liverpool players and fans alike, as they can officially wrap up the title next Sunday — or even as early as Wednesday, should Arsenal suffer defeat against Crystal Palace. However, this was a hard-fought victory for Liverpool, and the three points didn’t come easily.
As the season nears its end, Liverpool’s performances have dipped below their usual standards. Fatigue is clearly setting in for Arne Slot’s side, with both results and displays lacking the sharpness seen earlier in the campaign. That said, Liverpool faced a slightly different issue today: finishing. The forward line simply couldn’t find the back of the net. Mohamed Salah struck the woodwork twice and missed four big chances, finishing with an xG of 1.09. Diogo Jota, who came off the bench in the 60th minute, also struggled, missing three big chances and squandering the opportunity to score a hat trick as a substitute. Such wastefulness is uncharacteristic of the Portuguese forward, who is typically clinical in front of goal. Many Liverpool fans will be calling for attacking reinforcements — and thankfully, the club is expected to have a busy summer transfer window, according to journalists, the manager, and even Virgil van Dijk himself. Truthfully, though, Liverpool need much more than just reinforcements up front.

All in all, Liverpool might have expected a more comfortable win over Leicester, but in the grand scheme, that hardly matters. What matters now is that the Reds are on the brink of history, with the chance to secure their 20th league title in what could be a celebratory week ahead. Though Trent Alexander-Arnold appears to be on his way to Real Madrid, his celebration perfectly encapsulates the emotion Liverpool fans and players are feeling right now.
