Gerónimo Rulli has been one of the standout goalkeepers of the Ligue 1 season. Since joining Olympique de Marseille in the summer from AFC Ajax, the Argentine international has made 24 appearances and kept five clean sheets. In recent matches, Rulli has provided some vital game-changing saves, notably with three impressive stops in OM’s last outing against FC Nantes alone (2-0). The Argentina goalkeeper revealed today some of the secret behind the success: he sees a psychologist every week. “I talk a lot with my therapist about keeping concentrated on the match. I talk a lot with a psychologist about this and the moments to keep focussed in a match as a goalkeeper,” said Rulli at a press conference attended by Get French Football News. “Once per week, I’ve done it for many years. A football player is 80% in the head and 20% talent and technical ability. I speak with this person once a week but if I need more I do more.”
“Lately, I haven’t had many chances to touch the ball during matches. I’ve been less involved in recent games. When it comes to the role of the goalkeeper, it’s true that I play a lot with my feet, but I have relatively few saves to make. Our duty as a goalkeeper is to always be available and ready, whenever the team needs us: whether it’s from the first minute, the 15th, the 20th or even the 90th.”GFFN | George Boxall – Reporting from La Commanderie, Marseille.
