Bayern Munich and Kingsley Coman have agreed to part ways in the summer so that the Bavarian behemoths can finance a move for the much sought-after Florian Wirtz, according to a report in Germany.
The French forward has been a very useful squad player for Bayern over the past decade. Only once in the previous nine seasons has Coman started more than half of the club's league fixtures, yet he routinely produces a steady stream of goals and assists.
Coman has again been largely used deployed as a substitute this season by Vincent Kompany - emerging off the bench on an unrivalled 17 occasions across all competitions - yet still boasts eight direct goal involvements in the Bundesliga (scoring and creating four goals). Only four Bayern players can better that tally.
Nevertheless, the player and club have both decided on a sale this summer according to Sky Sport Germany. Bayern would be willing to listen to offers of between €30-40m (£25-34m) and have received initial contact from Liverpool.
The Reds are still very much in an exploratory stage of any deal for Coman, who has also attracted interest from the Saudi Pro League.
Bayern's willingness to offload such a useful and consistent source of end-product stems from their desire to snag Wirtz. The club have taken a public stance on their pursuit of the Bayer Leverkusen star, with board member Karl-Heinz Rummenigge recently admitting that a deal for the playmaker is the "clear goal" of this summer's transfer window.
Manchester City and Real Madrid are also vying for Wirtz's prized signature, but any suitor would have to stump up at least €125m (£104m) - which would make the playmaker ever interested club's most expensive signing of all time. Some outlets suggest that - if Leverkusen even entertain a move for the 21-year-old - the sum could be as high as €150m (£125m).
