According to a report from Bild, Borussia Dortmund remain focused on landing Olympique Lyonnais star Rayan Cherki (21) this summer after their efforts were thwarted during the winter window.
The Bundesliga side were heavily linked with a move in January, gaining the blessing of the highly-rated academy product to proceed with the transfer. However, Dortmund found that by the time they put a €22.5 million bid on the table, Lyon were no longer willing to listen to offers.
Dortmund missed their chance this winter, approaching Lyon after they had already sold Maxence Caqueret, Gift Orban, and Saïd Benrahma. However, the Ligue 1 side’s well-documented troubles remain, and they will likely need to raise more funds in the summer through player sales.
Cherki remains an obvious big-money departure, and Dortmund will hope that they can finally secure their target. However, they are preparing alternative options if they can’t land the talented Frenchman. Arsenal target Sverre Nypan (18) is an option, as is RC Strasbourg Alsace’s Sebastian Nanasi (22). However, it is noted that Nanasi is considered the least likely option.
