Chelsea could now reportedly get a new LA-based opponent in the Club World Cup with a potential new fixture being considered.

The summer is already going to be ridiculously busy for Chelsea with all the transfer deals they want to get done, and it looks like they want to get the majority of their business done before the Club World Cup starts, at least in terms of new arrivals.

We have been hearing about a host of names that Chelsea could go for in the market again at the end of the season, and the name of Rafa Leao is one creeping back in again, with Chelsea being linked to him a number of times over the years.

Chelsea of course have already completed the deals to sign two players from Sporting, with one of them arriving this summer and the other the following summer. Apparently, Chelsea felt pressure from other top clubs so that’s why they got the deals for Geovany Quenda and Dario Essugo done early in some pre-deals.

Ideally though, in terms of any priority new signings coming in, then Chelsea will be looking to get those done ahead of the summer’s club competition.

The new FIFA Club World Cup trophy.

Journalist Ben Jacobs posted on X last night:

‘FIFA are exploring a one-off game between Club América and Los Angeles Football Club to decide who takes the final Club World Cup spot, replacing Club Leon. A FIFA spokesperson has confirmed the plan with the winner set to enter Chelsea’s group. Game expected to go ahead if Leon lose their appeal.’

So an LA-based club could be entering Chelsea’s group, and I am sure that will fuel some excitement over in that City ahead of the tournament.
