Paraná continue to sit at the bottom of the Brasileirão after Corinthians breezed to an easy 1-0 win at home on Saturday night.
Henrique opened the scoring in the 36th minute for the home side, which proved to be enough to give Corinthians all three points.
The result would be overshadowed by Cássio’s shoulder injury, which forced him to leave the match. He was hurt at the half-hour mark as he went up to collect a corner kick.
Cássio tried to continue on, but was substituted immediately after Henrique’s beautiful header put Corinthians ahead just minutes later.
Despite doing well to keep the match close, Paraná captain Leandro Vilela effectively conceded the match when he was sent off in the 75th minute for a clumsy challenge that earned him his second yellow card.
Corinthians will only have a few days to prepare for their Copa Libertadores round-of-16 fixture against Colo Colo on Wednesday. The Chileans won the first leg 1-0.
Paraná will host Sport Recife next Sunday in a critical battle between two of Brazil’s bottom-four clubs.
