Germany U21 head-coach Antonio di Salvo commented on the inclusion of German-Austrian phenom Paul Wanner in his latest round of call-ups.

The inclusion of German-Austrian attacking phenom Paul Wanner in the latest round of Germany U21 call-ups constitutes (in the words of Germany U21 head-coach Antonio di Salvo) a "good sign". The trainer responsible for coaching German talent at the world's highest youth level nevertheless wished to emphasize that Wanner's acceptance of his invitation did not count as a "sure sign" that the 18-year-old would be representing Germany exclusively in the future.

Speaking at a Monday DFB press conference, di Salvo preferred to reiterate the basics of his job description. The trainer working one level below the German "Bundestrainer" noted that he and his staff "worked with players and their families to convince them of the DFB path" by "seeking a bond with the players and their environment."

"For me, all that counts is that he [Wanner] represents Germany and has decided to come to us," di Salvo said, "We're holding fair and impartial talks about the future. I think it would be wrong to promise him the moon. We have to keep it realistic and are doing so."
