Ajax star Dusan Tadic wants to terminate his contract as he is unhappy with the quality of the squad and the club’s unwillingness to invest in new players.
According to De Telegraaf, the Serbian is pushing to leave the club and is hoping to reach an agreement today.
After a disappointing campaign last season, Tadic expected them to hit the ground running in the transfer market, but they have not moved quickly.
They have only signed Benjamin Tahirovic from AS Roma for €7.5 million and Branco van den Boomen on a free transfer from Toulouse.
Ajax director of football Sven Mislintat does not want a bitter divorce and is keen for the contract termination to be respectful on both sides.
The former Southampton man did not report to training as required but held lengthy discussions with Mislintat alongside his agent Milos Malenovic on Thursday.
Tadic has been a loyal servant to Ajax since joining them for €11.4 million in 2018.
He helped the Dutch club win the Eredivisie title three times and inspired them to the semi-final of the Champions League in the 2018/19 season.
Tadic also helped them win the Dutch Cup twice during his five-year spell.
He has bagged 105 goals and 112 assists in 241 appearances for Ajax and excelled when playing through the middle.
His excellent link-up and hold-up play helped bring his teammates into the game.
Tadic finished as the joint-top scorer in the Eredivisie with 28 goals during the 2018/19 season. He won the Player of the Year award for the 2020/21 campaign.
It is unclear what Tadic will do next with his career, but it is definitely not the end for him.
