Former Arsenal captain Gilberto Silva can understand the collapse of defending champions Liverpool this season.

Gilberto has said that Liverpool are suffering from the same problem as Arsenal's invincibles.

The Gunners' team in 2003/04 will go down in history as they went a whole season without losing a game in the Premier League, but they were unable to replicate their success in the following campaign.

He told his podcast: “Well listen, having them playing fantastic in the last season made them a target to everyone.

“It's like our case back in 2003/04 we went unbeaten and we became a target for the other clubs and next season we could not repeat what we had done.

“The same is happening to Liverpool at the moment, they cannot repeat, not because they do not want to or because they're out of form, the players are not playing their best game, but because the other team's improved and the teams found a way how to get the best out of themselves when they play Liverpool."
