Leicester City are heading for the Championship based on their current run of form
Don Goodman expects Ruud van Nistelrooy to depart Leicester City before their return to the Championship.
The Foxes are heading for relegation back to the second tier after gaining promotion last year.
The Dutchman was put in charge in November, replacing Steve Cooper, but results have been hard to come by in the months since.
Leicester have lost their last seven league games in a row, and have failed to score on each occasion, leaving them 19th in the Premier League table.
Goodman expects Van Nistelrooy to leave Leicester before their inevitable return to the Championship next season.
He believes their goalless run, as well as the negative fan sentiment, makes it difficult to see a future for the 48-year-old at the King Power Stadium.
“If I’m honest, I’d be a little bit surprised if Ruud van Nistelrooy was the Leicester manager next season in the Championship,” Goodman exclusively told Football League World.
“That’s not to say he won’t be but, at this stage when you’re looking at the disgruntled fanbase, the way the team are performing, to lose seven in a row in the Premier League.
“It can happen if you’re a Leicester or a Southampton or an Ipswich, but to lose seven in a row without scoring a single goal is a bad indictment.
“So I don’t think the fans are enjoying the football, and as I said it would be hard at this moment to see that either Ruud van Nistelrooy would want to remain as Leicester manager, or that the Leicester hierarchy would want to retain him.”
Leicester are currently 19th in the Premier League table, with the team 12 points adrift of safety.
With eight games remaining, the Foxes need a remarkable run of form in order to avoid the drop back to the Championship.
The Leicestershire outfit won the second division title last year, earning 97 points.
Next up for Van Nistelrooy’s side is a home clash against Newcastle United.
Leicester’s survival bid completely fell apart under Van Nistelrooy and it’s hard to see him staying with the club going into the summer.
The Foxes should already be considering their next steps, eyeing potential appointments and trying to get a head start on their transfer business.
A reset is needed, which might require an overhaul of the first team squad again in order to lift the mood at the club.
